This sculpture is an exploration in ancestry. Because of the changes in technology, society, and our lack of knowledge, our lives can only rarely be meaningfully compared to those of of our ancestors a few thousand years ago. The column shrinks as it moves upwards, but the figure's features remain the same reminding us of the biological similarity we have with our ancestors of recent times relative to evolutionary change. Has life's burdens become lighter as each new generation comes around, or are the past generations the ones high up on the column; or are we holding up their memories as they fade into nothingness. This sculpture does not answer any of these questions.
This little red sculpture was made with 3D printing or rapid-prototyping, which is a relatively new technology. To see the other 3D prints click here. |
