With the sculptures Biomorph,
Tower of Babel, and Robot Pepper I try to tap
into a sense of spontaneity that is not possible with figure sculpture.
Both sculptures tackle social and political issues indirectly.
While making Biomorph I was thinking about the future and the possibility
for unity and harmony of man and machine. On the other hand, while sculpting
Tower of Babel, I was thinking about the lack of communication that
results in wars and the devastation of the environment.
In both Biomorph and Robot Pepper I weave together organic and manmade
forms as seamlessly as I can; a sort of prayer for humanity to create
and use technology wisely.
Tower of Babel is meant as a warning, a symbol for the contemporary
wastefulness of our limited resources, especially oil and air with a
low carbon content, and the ignoring of warnings about our folly. Technology
has made it possible to bridge all obstacles to communication, but it
seems sometimes still that people speak gibberish at one another
